Demystifying Insurance

When you receive a service, ultimately, you are financially responsible.  However, the cost of that service can be split with a 3rd-party payer.  We are in-network providers for the following insurance companies:

1. VISION INSURANCE

With vision plans, our office will verify eligibility and tell you all your benefits in real-time.  It is that easy and straightforward. Since we are in-network providers, you will receive the maximum savings per your plan.

  • VSP (Vision Service Plan)
  • Eyemed
  • Met Life Insurance

Vision plans generally cover annual wellness checks or general physicals for your eyes. A certain time frame, typically 1-2 years, must pass for benefits to renew. Vision plans usually provide some coverage for glasses and/or contacts. In special cases where contacts are considered medically-necessary, these plans can cover your contact lens exam fees and a supply of contacts.

If you do not have vision insurance, you can apply for individual vision plans yourself.  Click on the above icon to learn more.

2. MEDICAL INSURANCE

Our optometrists are general practitioners for the eyes. Therefore, your medical insurance can cover ocular problems as they arise, and you are not limited to just your annual wellness visit. Medical problems with the eyes can begin with generic symptoms (ex: blurred vision, eyestrain, itch, redness, discharge, pain, etc.) Other medical problems may require chronic monitoring (ex; glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataract, diabetes)

Please note: We are in-network providers for the following PPO-type plans, but we do NOT verify or check your medical eligibility/benefits on your behalf. This is a service that our office does NOT provide for our patients.

  • Aetna
  • Anthem Blue Cross
  • Blue Shield of California
  • United Healthcare

If you want more concrete details for your actual coverage, it is your responsibility to contact your medical plan prior to making an appointment. Otherwise, we will collect a copay, bill your medical insurance as in-network providers, and await further instructions from them afterwards.  Depending on your specific contract with your insurance, sometimes, there may be an additional balance beyond your copay. In general, medical insurance does not cover glasses and contact lens materials.
